Acton House was built by convict labour in the 1830s for William Rumney and his family who emigrated from London in the Berwick in 1823.
Rumney was granted and acquired substantial land tracts east of Hobart amounting to some 3000 acres, including foothills of the mountain that still bears his name. The farm was primarily involved in wool production, and the old shearing shed still stands testament to times gone by.
If you wish to wander around the now six-hectare property you will encounter ducks, geese, native birds and the occasional wallaby at dusk. In the paddocks you will find our two miniature ponies, Tinkerbelle and Phoenix, and our old retired horse Rambo.
Breakfast provisions are provided for your convenience; continental plus Tasmanian free range eggs and bacon.
Acton Estate is situated east of Hobart, close to the Coal Valley wine route and historic Richmond Village. There are two golf courses only minutes away as is glorious Seven Mile Beach which is great for swimming and walking. Port Arthur is only an hour drive from Acton.
